KUCHING, June 20: A 32-year-old local man was arrested by police after attempting to smuggle a 44-year-old Indonesian man into the state without proper documentation at Kpg Tesu Kura, Tebedu on Thursday night.

The arrest was made around 8pm after the police who were on patrol duty saw the two suspects acting suspiciously inside a white pickup truck.

“We had confiscated a pickup truck, 1 set of keys, 4 units of mobile phones, a ring and RM10,024 of cash from the suspect,” Commander of The 11th Batallion of the General Operation Forces (PGA) SAC Mancha Anak Ata said in the press statement.

“The local suspect will be investigated under Section 26A Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 while the Indonesian will be charged under Section 6(1)(c) Immigration Act 1953/69,” Mancha added.
