KUCHING, Oct 22: Century-old Padungan will see its first mural to be revealed this year, says Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.
He said there are great plans in store to revamp Padungan, including the identification of several ‘Instagrammable’ places in the area.
Saplings were planted along Jalan Padungan this morning to replace the old trees that had been felled, and following that would be to set up the lighting.
“Our focus now will be the lighting. We want to light up Padungan first,” said Wee.
He said Padungan is the heart of Kuching South. Therefore the council is putting much emphasis on Padungan’s facelift before moving on to other areas.
“When people talk about Kuching South, the first thing that comes to mind is Padungan. Padungan is undeniably the ‘heart’ of Kuching South.
“If the council can’t even make the ‘heart’ look good, how can we develop other areas? So, please allow us to go by stages,” he urged during the ShallWeeTalk Facebook live session today.
Meanwhile, Wee also welcomed suggestions from local business operators and residents on how to improve Padungan further. — DayakDaily
