KUCHING, Oct 22: The Sarawak government being enterprising and business-minded is making Sarawak the richest State in Malaysia by 2030.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) president Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian believes that Sarawak will not only be the richest then, but also the most inclusive.

“It does not matter if you are Chinese, Malay, Iban, Indian, Orang Ulu. We share our wealth. It does not matter if you are Christians, Muslims, Buddhists or Taoists, we share our resources. It does not matter whether you live in a rural, or city, we share with each other.

“In Sarawak, we don’t care because we have got bigger things to do,” he said during the launch of SUPP NewBees and Puteri wings at the party headquarters here today.

Citing the setting up of Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros), Dr Sim, who is also Deputy Premier, pointed out that it is one of the initiatives driving Sarawak to be a rich region.

Despite oil and gas mining having been going on for the last hundred years, he said, Sarawak only started Petros five years ago to look after its oil and gas resources and yet, it is already raking in revenue.

The government-linked company has announced a profit of RM1.5 billion last year during its 5th anniversary celebration which was held recently.

Apart from taking ownership of its oil and gas, Dr Sim said Sarawak is also embarking on hydrogen production where 1,500 chemical engineers are needed.

He thus called on the NewBees and Puteri members to step up and grab the opportunity to be part of the initiative.

He also reminded the young SUPP members that whether they were ready or not, Sarawak will move on with the initiative because both South Korea and Japan are waiting to purchase hydrogen from Sarawak.

“Sarawak government under GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak), since 2018, is a very enterprising government. It is very business-minded,” he said, adding that electricity generated by hydropower is one of the sources of income for Sarawak.

“You know that our electricity is RM0.25 one kilowatt? We sell to Indonesia for RM0.45 (per kilowatt). We sell it to Sabah for RM0.35, but when we sell it to Singapore, it is more than RM0.90,” said Dr Sim, who emphasised that the revenue generated will finally be enjoyed by the people of Sarawak.

Also present were SUPP deputy president Dato Sri Dr Richard Riot Jaem, deputy president Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, secretary general Datuk Sebastian Ting, youth chief Michael Tiang, women chief Kho Teck Wan, Kota Sentosa branch chief Wilfred Yap, Bintulu branch chief Johnny Pang and Dudong branch chief Wong Ching Yong. — DayakDaily
