KUCHING, Aug 12: Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang is urging Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) to stop politicking using edited footage showing egg tray deliveries at Kampung Bunga Rampai.
He said the Facebook livestream recording of him sending a donation of 150 trays of eggs to Kampung Bunga Rampai on Aug 10 had been intercepted and edited to cause unwarranted misunderstandings, towards which he expressed infuriation.
He was referring to a post on Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong’s Facebook page which included a short edited clip from his livestream showing a conversation between himself and a worker on the lorry sending the eggs.
Yong, in her post, said Lo had “asked the person on the lorry not to let him carry too many eggs because he was carrying the eggs for photo purposes only”.
Lo, who is also Padawan Municipal Council chairman, held that the social media post was uncalled for as everyone who participated in the donation did their best.
“Nobody smeared on YB Violet Yong when she carried a pack of rice in her video because everyone is doing their best to contribute in times like now. There should be no downplaying like such when everyone is doing everything they can.
“The content of her clip was emphasised for the purpose of ‘photographing’, but in the actual clip I was emphasising that many people helped to carry it, and there is no need to take too many trays of eggs at one time to prevent the eggs from falling and breaking,” he said in a statement today.
He expressed helplessness that his action was “twisted in such an unhealthy way”, thus he urged the opposition to not engage in any more political play amid the pandemic.
Meanwhile, Lo who is also the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Assistant Publicity and Information Secretary sent his appreciation to all non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and societies involved for their kind contribution to Kampung Bunga Rampai and other localities under lockdown.
“In these Covid-19 times, everyone has worked very hard and selflessly. People from all walks of life have spared no effort to contribute and helped the disadvantaged. As the saying goes, āa little goes a long wayā. Every action, every bit counts,” said Lo. ā DayakDaily
