KUCHING, May 12: Youths have been advised to learn how to analyse and fact-check information instead of blindly following trends.
In a Facebook post, Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing spoke on his attendance at the 2026 JCI Malaysia Area Sarawak Convention Gala and Award Ceremony Luncheon on Sunday (May 10), where youth leaders and changemakers from various backgrounds gathered to celebrate leadership, dedication, and the spirit of service.
He said that with growing sensitivity around race and religion, youths must become a unifying force that promotes mutual respect, critical thinking, and self-improvement—especially in diverse societies like Sarawak and Malaysia.
“In today’s rapidly changing world, technology, economic opportunities and global connectivity continue to grow, but society also faces rising living costs, job uncertainty, mental health challenges and weakening shared values.
“Youth must have leadership, discipline, responsibility and the right mindset for growth and success as the mainstay of national development,” he said.
Tiong, who is also the assemblyman for Dudong and MP for Bintulu, further advised that success does not happen overnight and results may not come immediately, but continuous effort will bring progress over time.
He added that young people should not focus only on comfort or material success, but be willing to learn, face challenges and improve themselves, as chasing glamour, overspending or living beyond one’s means will only create unnecessary pressure in the long run.
“The government will continue supporting youth development through education, skills training, entrepreneurship and community empowerment,” he said. — DayakDaily
