Largest drug bust this year uncovers drug ‘kitchen’ in Luak Bay

MIRI, Oct 2: Police raided a shophouse unit that served as a ‘mini kitchen’ to process Ecstasy and ketamine, and a house in Luak Bay, seizing drugs and assets worth an estimated RM409,917 in the largest drug bust in the state to-date.

The first raid which was led by ASP Jong Lak Kho, took place on Sunday (Sept 29) around 7.40pm at the shophouse unit, uncovered illegal substances totaling RM315,930. Assets worth an estimated RM93,987 were also seized.


Police also detained three men aged 32, 38 and 47 respectively.

Sarawak deputy police commissioner Datuk Dev Kumar said the suspects tested positive for drugs.

“This is the biggest haul we have made in the state so far,” he said in a press conference today.

One of the suspects had a previous criminal record under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs 1952.

The first two suspects were nabbed outside the premises, while the third suspect was nabbed inside the unit located on the first floor of the building.

The illegal substances as well as several tools to process the drugs were discovered inside the unit.

Further interrogation of the suspects gave cause to the police to raid a house on Monday (Sept 30) around 4pm.

Dev said the illegal substances seized during these two raids weighed 6,441 grammes.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

All suspects have been remanded for seven days until October 7 to assist police investigation into the case.

Apart from the drugs and tools used in the drug making process, police also seized assets such as RM11,095 in cash, two cars (Chevrolet Orlando and Toyota Camry), a gold bracelet (RM4,892) and a Tissot wristwatch (RM3,000).
