KUCHING, Feb 15: Kuchingites have been warned not to let their guard down against Covid-19.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, in giving the advice, called on the people to remain vigilant and abide by the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of Covid-19.

“Yesterday, maybe because of Valentine’s Day, I noticed there were so many people around and a lot of them were not following physical distancing and others.

“And this, I hope the people of Kuching are to be extra careful and do not take it easy.

“Although the numbers (of Covid-19) are low, we must not think that it is safe,” he said during a press conference on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak today.

Uggah who is also State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman reminded Kuchingites to wear their face masks in public places, practice physical distancing and avoid going to crowded places and follow the SOPs closely.

Earlier, Uggah who is also Second Finance Minister said Kuching was declared a red zone of Covid-19 in the middle of last month.

Thereafter, he observed that the Covid-19 situation in Kuching has improved due to the success of contact tracing and the number of cases has dropped.

As a result, he noted Kuching is currently a yellow zone of Covid-19 with 19 cases in the past two weeks.

“Although Kuching is a yellow zone, it does not mean that we have won the war against Covid-19 in Kuching.

“It is still in the community. Therefore, we request all Kuchingites to be extra careful,” he added.

In the meantime, there were eight new cases of Covid-19 reported in Kuching today.

Out of the eight cases, seven cases were identified from active contact tracing to Covid-19 positive cases and one case involved a medical staff who was infected from Sibu. — DayakDaily
