Kuching to host Asia Carbon Conference from March 14-16

The Asia Carbon Conference will take place in Kuching in March.

KUCHING, Feb 11: The Asia Carbon Conference, the first industry leadership conference for carbon offsetting and trading in Asia, is set to take place in Kuching at Pullman Hotel from March 14 to 16.

Organised by UK-based Argus Media in collaboration with the Sarawak government and host sponsor Samling Group, the conference, which will focus on carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS), is designed for industry newcomers through to market leaders and experts to interact, learn, and network.

According to the Argus Media website, the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, is expected to deliver the opening keynote address on ‘Going Net Zero by 2050’ on March 15.


More than ten international speakers will be featured, including Kavickumar Muruganathan from Microsoft’s Datacenter Sustainability Policy Lead (Asia); world’s largest independent energy trader, Vitol, carbon trading head James Larmouth; Bp low carbon trading senior originator Nicolas Bigotte; Mitsubishi Corporation Carbon Management Team deputy general manager Masao Koyama; China International Capital Corporation (CICC) FICC executive director Dafei Huang; Institutional Sales at ACX vice president Andrew Cullen; Danone Indonesia operations director Shahrul Nizam, Voluntary Carbon Markets Integrity Initiative (VCMI) executive director Mark Kenber and Argus business development vice president Adam Nye.

Among the key topics to be covered in the conference include an introduction to voluntary carbon offset — what are they, how do they work, and how might they impact Asia; navigating the ecosystem for project developers, retailers, brokers and consumers; financing carbon projects; review of standards that exist for validation and verification of carbon credits, differences between carbon offsets and carbon taxes; understanding high-quality carbon offsets and allowances bought and trade; case studies of how corporations can use carbon offsets -from aviation to shipping; and updates on carbon capture technology.

On March 16, participants can take a deep dive into the future of carbon capture storage (CCS) and utilisation (CCU) developments through exclusive regulatory updates presented by the Sarawak government, discover new opportunities in the region, and gain practical insights through a case study on the Northern Lights project.
