KUCHING, Oct 21: In the spirit of giving, Kuching Love Book Association handed over 60 goodies bags to Sri Srinivasagar Kaliamman Temple located in Jalan Ban Hock here for the coming Deepavali celebration.

The Association’s founder May Loo Hun Ing presented the contribution to Councillor Shankar Ram Asnani at a simple ceremony at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) lobby in the presence of its mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng today.

Later, Wee together with Shankar, including councillors Kho Teck Wan and Chai Ju Loon also attended a Deepavali celebration hosted by MBKS for their Hindu staff.

“I would like to wish our Hindu staff, grassroots leaders, residents, friends and Indian community a Happy Deepavali in advance.

“This event is organised to show our appreciation for all of your hard work and dedication towards MBKS,” he said in a statement.

“Like many other Hindu festivals, Deepavali, or the Festival of Lights, celebrates the triumph of good over evil. It is also a time when families, friends and communities get together to strengthen our ties and extend compassion, generosity and charity to others.

“It is these values that form the cornerstone of our civilisations,” he said while encouraging the diverse community in Sarawak to continue fostering and reinforcing these good values, especially among the younger generation.

Wee emphasised that it is important to teach and pass down the core values, customs and traditions to the next generation to maintain and safeguard the peace and stability enjoyed in Sarawak now and in the future.

“Be kind to each other and respect our family with different cultures and religions. Let’s not forget that we live in a diverse community, so we must accept and respect our neighbours as well,” he added.Ā ā€” DayakDaily
