Malaysian Consulate in Pontianak pays courtesy visit to Taib

KUCHING, Oct 21: The Malaysian Consulate in Pontianak, Indonesia paid a courtesy visit to Head of the State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud at his residence in Demak Jaya today.

According to a news report from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Malaysian Consul in Pontianak, Indonesia, Azizul Zekri Abdul Rahim said the purpose of the courtesy visit was to further strengthen the relationship between the Malaysian Consulate in Pontianak, Indonesia and the Sarawak government.

“We are also in talks to hold the 65th anniversary of the Malaysia-Indonesia diplomatic relations, which will be held in Pontianak in November.


“Apart from that, we are exploring cooperation between the Malaysian Consulate in Pontianak, Indonesia and the Sarawak government in various aspects, especially in tourism, education and medicine because residents in Pontianak often go to Kuching for medical treatment,” said Azizul when met by reporters after the visit.

He added for now, the consulate is also collaborating with several agencies in Sarawak such as the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), the Sarawak Ministry of Transport (MOTS) and many more.

Azizul Zekri has held the post of Malaysian Consul in Pontianak, Indonesia for 10 months and is expected to end his visit in Kuching on Oct 24. — DayakDaily
