Kuching district records 1,601 Covid-19 cases, no deaths in Sarawak today

KUCHING, Aug 20: Kuching district saw 1,601 Covid-19 cases today, exceeding even the highest entry of 1,566 cases registered for the whole Sarawak last Monday (Aug 16).

The district alone contribued 62.83 per cent of the 2,548 total cases in Sarawak.


With this, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 94,564.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Kuching reported 1,601 cases, followed by Serian (240), Bau (131), Samarahan (116), Lundu (94), Simunjan (60), Tebedu (41), Sibu (38), Bintulu (37), Belaga (36), Pusa (30), Mukah (22), Sri Aman (22), Sarikei (12), Asajaya (11), Subis (9), Miri (8), Saratok (7), Selangau (6), Bukit Mabong (5), Pakan (5), Tatau (4), Lawas (3), Kapit (2), Sebauh (2), Betong (1), Kanowit (1), Lubok Antu (1), Song (1), Julau (1) and Beluru (1).

SDMC also reported that of the total cases reported today, 1,571 cases were screened after having contact to positive cases where 52 were symptomatic.

Another 407 cases involved individuals linked to active clusters where 27 of them were symptomatic.

Additionally, 346 cases were from other screenings in health facilities and 208 from screening of symptomatic individuals.

SDMC further reported 13 Import B cases involved individuals returning from Kuala Lumpur (6), Sabah (5), Selangor (1) and Kedah (1) while three Import A cases involving individuals returning from Indonesia (2) and Qatar (1).

On the clinical categories, SDMC mentioned that 2,224 cases were in Category 1 whereby the patients do not develop any symptoms, while there were 323 cases with mild symptoms in Category 2.

There were only one Category 5 case involving a patient with lung infection that required ventilator.

The State did not record any Covid-19 fatalities today, bringing the number of deaths in Sarawak to 495.

On the same day, Sarawak also reported 355 patients had recovered and were discharged from hospitals statewide, bringing the total number of recoveries and discharged cases to 81,198 or 85.87 per cent.

There are 12,686 individuals still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards in the State. — DayakDaily
