KPDNHEP investigates bus company for allegedly having unverified weighing machine

SIBU, April 22: A trunk bus company at Jalan Pahlawan bus terminal was caught for allegedly using an unverified weighing machine last night.

The weighing machine is used to measure the weight of parcels before they are registered to be delivered to their respective recipients.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Sibu chief Kelyn Bolhassan said today that the bus company will be investigated under the Weigh and Measure Act 1972.


Action would be taken against the company under the Act which carries a fine of RM5,000 or an imprisonment of four years, or both.

“The operation was carried out last night at the Jalan Pahlawan Bus Terminal together with Syarikat Metrology Corporation Malaysia (MCM) Sdn Bhd, Sibu with regard to the weighing machines used by all bus companies for the sending of parcels,” he said.

Kelyn revealed that since January this year, his branch had made seizures totalling RM980.

“We will continue with such operations around the Sibu region. This operation is intended to track businesses committing the offense of manipulating weights and measuring tools such vehicle scales, gold scales, linear measuring instruments, rig weighing instruments, parker meters, time recorders, balancing springs, liquid volumetric devices, and even dispenser pumps at gas stations,” he said.

Kelyn also called on the public to provide it with information or complaints on businesses conducting unethical practices to the ministry either through the Ez ADU app, their web portal at kpdnhep.gov.my or WhatsApp number at 019 – 279 4317.
