KUCHING, Oct 16: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) is appealing to chicken egg producers to supply more eggs for domestic usage.
Its caretaker minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi acknowledged there is currently a shortage of Grade A, B and C chicken eggs in the market.
He disclosed this when commenting on the shortage of chicken eggs after officiating at the closing ceremony of Craft Promotion Programme organised in conjunction with Buy Malaysia Products Campaign (KBBM) held at a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur today.
Meanwhile, when asked to comment on additional charges posed by chicken egg sellers, Nanta said KPDNHEP will conduct an investigation into the matter.
“If there is wrongdoing, we will indeed use the Act that we have to compound or fine them,” he added.
On Wednesday (Oct 12), KPDNHEP secretary-general Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof in a statement announced that the government has extended the implementation period for the Maximum Price Determination of Chicken and Chicken Eggs which came into force on Oct 12, with a new subsidy rate for chicken eggs of RM0.08/egg for farmers.
He also said the maximum retail price for grade A chicken eggs has been set at 45 sen each, grade B (43 sen), and grade C (41 sen) in the peninsula, while for Sarawak, Sabah and Langkawi, the maximum price for chicken eggs will vary, depending on the zone and district. — DayakDaily
