KUCHING, Aug 19: The Keluarga Malaysia sales programme that would give people access to cheaper essential goods on a weekly basis will be implemented in 170 constituencies in Sarawak, Terengganu, and Johor beginning today (Aug 19).

In a press statement today, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) informed that the sales programme will be implemented at least twice a month in each constituency.

With RM80 million allocated to realise the sales programme nationwide, each constituency will be given an equal distribution of RM25,000 per month to implement the programme for 18 weeks from Aug 15 to Dec 31 this year.

The allocation is used to provide discounted prices for selected essential goods including chicken, chicken eggs, fish and seafood, sugar, cooking oil, flour, rice as well as vegetables and fruits.

KPDNHEP also encouraged retailers and business premises involved in the sales programme to offer discounts up to 20 per cent from local market prices.

As the sales programme received overwhelming response from both consumers and business operators since it was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on Dec 2, 2021, it will be expanded to 600 state constituencies throughout the country.

The implementation of the sales programme, KPDNHEP emphasised, is an effort by the government to ease the burden of the increasing cost of living among Malaysians.

Five ministries are involved in the implementation of the sales programme namely KPDNHEP, Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry, Rural Development Ministry and Federal Territories Ministry.

The public can obtain more information about the sales programmes via the official website of Jualan Murah Keluarga Malaysia or the KPDNHEP official Facebook page and KPDNHEP offices in respective states.

The Ministry also reminded all businesses to continue to play a role in controlling inflation by not profiting from and raising the price of goods unreasonably.
