KAPIT, March 10: The implementation of mega projects such as the Baleh and Murum Hydroelectric Dams will position Kapit as a renewable energy generation source and in turn elevate the small town to a city.

Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Development Aidel Lariwoo pointed out that Kapit would play an important role in electricity generation especially for export such as to Indonesia in the near future.

“This will make Kapit a focal point in Sarawak’s central region,” he said in a news report by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).

Aidel had on Tuesday conducted a working visit to the proposed Nanga Menuan ferry and Baleh Dam access road organised by the Kapit Division Public Works Department (JKR) Office.

The purpose of the visit was to hear the presentation of the project status from the JKR Kapit Division and JKR Central Region which explained the latest status of the project so as not to be left behind and to detect problems or shortcomings with the projects.

The proposed ferry will link Jalan Nanga Menuan and Jalan Kapit-Song.
In the long run, the ferry will be able to connect Jalan Kapit-Nanga and Jalan Tulie-Merit, as well as Jalan Ulu Ibau, Melipis, and then Jalan Tada-Kanowit-Sibu.

“Based on the briefing by JKR Kapit and JKR Central Region, there are several sectors of the road package that have experienced delays due to certain factors,” Aidel said.

Meanwhile, Aidel urged immediate action on the ongoing, in-progress, or approved projects to ensure that their implementation always demonstrates improvement in terms of progress. — DayakDaily
