KUCHING, March 25: Federal Minister of Works and Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi has called on Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) to expedite the repair of Nanga Tisa Bridge in Sungai Yong, Kapit.

The bridge collapsed on the morning of March 4 following a landslide which cut off road connectivity to two longhouses.

Nanta said the authorities had built a temporary diversion route for the local residents to travel into and out of the area.

“I was made to understand that the evaluation works of land structure and so on for the implementation of repairs are being done by the authorities.

“I have also personally contacted Sarawak JKR to speed up the repair work so that residents around Sungai Yong can enjoy more comfortable road facilities before the Gawai festival arrives,” he said in a Facebook post today after visiting the site a day earlier.

During his stay in Kapit, Nanta also visited 38 families at Rumah Ngelai Nanga Tisa, a newly-built longhouse.

There, he approved an allocation of RM10,000 for the longhouse’s Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and RM1,000 for every family to ease their burden.

Next, he visited Rumah Ngindang in Sungai Sut where he approved a grant worth RM113,000 for various activities in the longhouse.

He also paid a visit to Balau, a local resident who is bed-ridden, residing at Rumah Nyawai Sungai Sut.

“I will try to visit the people in my area as often as possible. Although sometimes I don’t have the opportunity to attend myself, I will make sure the welfare of the people of Kapit is being taken care of through my political secretary, Ambrose Abong Bugek who often acts as my representative to listen to the voice of the people here,” he added. — DayakDaily
