SIBU, Jan 4: The operation of the Sibu-Song-Kapit bus service starting January 1 has received positive feedback from residents in Kapit.

The residents welcomed the operation of this express bus service as it means that they have an alternative mode of transport. They also believe that this bus service would help to improve the social-economic development of Kapit.

In welcoming the bus service, Kevin Ngait opined that it is helping to open up Kapit town to outsiders.

“As a native of Kapit, I am very grateful for the good road network, and this network allows buses to travel to the three places as early as this year. This is a good sign and will have a positive impact on the socio-economic development of Kapit Town,” he said.

Kevin is also optimistic that the bold move by the bus companies will indirectly revive the tourism sector in Kapit, which is famous for its richness in the local community’s culture.

Another happy resident, William Igoh, reckoned that the bus service provides the public with transportation options they have never dreamed of.

“I have just found out that Lanang and Rejang bus companies have an express bus service to go to Kapit. So I think it’s really good and people can still use express boat service,” he said.

For Lahan Suhaili, the affordable bus fare of RM22 is a pleasant surprise for the people.

“It’s good that buses are going to Kapit as it is easier than taking an express boat although we can also take rental van service. I think the Sibu-Song-Kapit road is about 90 per cent complete and even buses can now travel on it,” he said.

Lahan viewed that many people from Kapit can now go to Sibu by bus to do their business efficiently and at an affordable fare of only RM22 for one way.

Two express bus companies, Lanang Road Bus Company Bhd and Rejang Transport Sdn Bhd, have started the sector on January 1 with six trips per day.

The daily bus schedule is at 7am, 11am, and 3pm for both the Sibu-Song-Kapit and Kapit-Song-Sibu sectors. ― DayakDaily
