SIBU, Jan 1: Two bus companies have started the Sibu-Song-Kapit sector today, making travelling convenient for those without transport.

The two companies, Lanang Road Bus Company Bhd and Rejang Transport Sdn Bhd, are charging an affordable one-way fare of RM22 for each passenger.

The daily bus schedule is at 7am, 11am, and 3pm for both the Sibu-Song-Kapit and Kapit-Song-Sibu sectors.

Sarawak Bus Transport Company Association adviser Lau Khing Seng said these are 38-seater buses, and passengers will experience a comfortable journey due to the bigger seats.

“The two companies have installed bigger seats at RM1,300 each for the comfort of the passengers,” he said.

Lau said the buses would make a pit-stop at Kanowit and Song for two minutes each time to pick up passengers and let passengers descend from the bus.

On the fare, he said it is cheaper than those charged by ‘kereta sewa’ (passenger vans) of RM35 each person.

“I believe that response to this sector will be very encouraging due to the cheaper fare compared to the fare,” he said.

He anticipated that with the completion of the 110km Sibu-Kapit Road, other bus companies might jump on the bandwagon to do the same sector.

“Very soon, bus companies will also launch the Kapit-Bintulu and later Kapit-Mukah sectors,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lanang Bus Company will add in more buses for the Sibu-Song-Kapit sector if the response from the people is good.

“For a start, we are using two buses only. But if the response from the people is good, we will increase the number of buses,” said Chua Huat, the manager of the company.
