Kapit boat tragedy: One unidentified body found

SIBU, March 9: The body of a man believed to be one of the four victims of the boat sinking incident in Batang Baleh near SK Lepong Baleh has been found in Pulau Kerto today.

The body was found by members of the public around 11.30am before being pulled to the Sibu Region 5 Marine Police Base.


The body was later sent to the Sibu Hospital for an autopsy.

Kapit district police chief DSP Rohana Nanu, when contacted, confirmed a report regarding the discovery of the body.

“We have been informed about the discovery of a body, but the identity is still unknown,” she said.

In the incident around 5pm on Thursday (March 7), five men, including two policemen, were on their way to Nanga Tulie Camp carrying explosives on a 30-horsepower (HP) fibre boat.

Only one man, identified as Moses Ngui, 47, was rescued by the public after the boat capsized and sank in Batang Balleh.

The four victims are Sergeant Jonathan Lambert, 51; Constable Iskandar Zulkarnain Ibrahim, 28; Emerson John James Naim, 47; and boat driver Jack Balan, 44. — DayakDaily
