MARUDI, Aug 13: A 53-year-old man remains missing after he was feared swept away while fishing at Sungai Ka Dadoq near Long Moh here yesterday.
The missing man, identified as Johnny Usat, was reportedly fishing with a net at around 3.30pm yesterday when he disappeared and was no longer seen in the area.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said villagers from Long Moh mounted an initial search for Johnny but failed to locate him.
His family subsequently lodged a police report and contacted the Marudi Fire and Rescue Station.
For the first day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation today, four firefighters led by PPgB Jessbent Jenus left the Marudi station at 7.51am in a utility Triton vehicle for the remote location.
The team arrived at the scene at 7.15pm after travelling about 720km, Bomba said.
However, the operation is being hampered by poor radio and mobile phone coverage at the location, making it difficult for rescuers to relay updates.
Johnny remains unaccounted for as the SAR operation continues. — DayakDaily
