1 rescued, 4 missing after boat sinks near SK Lepong Balleh, Kapit

A team of firefighters are seen conducting a surface search on the river where four victims have been reported missing after their boat sank.

KUCHING, March 7: One individual has been rescued while four others remain missing after a boat sank in a river near SK Lepong Balleh, Kapit.

According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Kapit, they received a call regarding the incident at 5.24pm and promptly deployed a team of firefighters to the location.

Based on the report from the operation commander, a witness stated that the incident occurred around 5pm, and the boat was ferrying five people.


“One of the passengers was rescued by members of the public,” it was reported.

Firefighters proceeded to conduct surface searches within a one-kilometer radius from the area where all the victims were last seen but could not find anything.

Due to the strong river current and the onset of darkness, the search operation had to be postponed at 6.50pm and will resume tomorrow. —  DayakDaily
