KUCHING, Feb 19: Kampung Sapit in Padawan will be connected with electricity supply this year, said Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Datuk Willie Mongin.

According to him, the Ministry of Rural Development (KPLB) has approved the project to be implemented by the State Ministry of Utility and Communication and Sarawak Electricity Supply Corporation (Sesco).

“For Kampung Sapit, I have received a letter from KPLB which stated that the project (supply of electricity) will be implemented this year, and I hope that it will be implemented as promised,” Willie pointed out today when officiating at a durian planting course at the village.

Some 55 participants attended the one-day course, which focused on planting the Musang King durian.

Willie, who is Puncak Borneo MP, also allocated RM20,000 to the village to construct a public toilet facility.

He said he was made to understand that the village was without a public toilet for tourists visiting the village.

“For the projects here, we can always work together with the elected representative for the benefits of the villagers,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Willie urged the people in the area to be more serious about agricultural activities to generate more income.

He said the planting of durians on a big scale was worth trying, given the hilly terrain in the area.

He added that planting other crops like pineapple and pepper on a big scale was also worth trying.

“It is about time that we move forward and be serious about agricultural activities to develop our land,” Willie said. — DayakDaily
