Jobless woman fined for drug possession, another accused claims trial

KUCHING, May 28: An unemployed woman was fined a total of RM4,700 for possessing dangerous drugs in two separate cases.

For the first case, Magistrate Nuruhuda Mohd Yusof fined 25-year-old Ezza Asfeesya Mohd Soffian RM2,300 in default 5 months’ imprisonment when she pleaded guilty to possessing 0.04 grams of methamphetamine in a hotel room at about 5.30pm on March 6 this year.

She was charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act, which carries a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment not exceeding 5 years, if convicted.

In the second case, also before Nuruhuda, Ezza was charged with jointly possessing 0.60 grams of methamphetamine in a hotel room at about 3.30pm on April 4, 2019, with Agnes Sendi Adam.

They were charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act and to be read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment term not exceeding 5 years or both, upon conviction.

Ezza pleaded guilty to this charge and was fined RM2,400 in default 5 month’s jail.

Agnes pleaded not guilty to this charge; hence, Nuruhuda fixed July 1 for further mention of the case.

DPP Muhammad Hafiz Musa and prosecuting officer Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted, while both accused were unrepresented. — DayakDaily
