KUCHING, May 28: The Magistrate’s Court today fined an unemployed man a total fine of RM4,000 for consuming dangerous drugs and dishonestly receiving a stolen iPad.
Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar fined Yaasin Dris, 26, from Kampung Astana Lot RM1,500 in default 2 months’ imprisonment and also ordered him to undergo supervision for 2 years for consuming amphetamine and methamphetamine at about 4.35 am on Feb 14, 2018.
Yaasin was charged under Paragraph 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and is punishable under Subsection 15(1) of the same Act, which carries a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment not exceeding 2 years, if convicted.
In another case, Yaasin was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code for dishonestly receiving a stolen iPad belonging to Dayang Perida in Kampung Tupong at about 7.30am on May 20, 2019.
For this offence, Mohd Syukri fined him RM2,500 in default 5 months’ imprisonment.
Section 411 of the Penal Code carries an imprisonment term that may extend to 5 years or with fine or both, if convicted. — DayakDaily
