Jobless man gets jail for threatening to kill sibling

KUCHING, June 10: The Magistrate’s Court here sent an unemployed man to six months behind bars for committing criminal intimidation on his elder sister over an Astro recorder issue in March this year.

Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar today ordered the imprisonment term to start from March 23, the date accused Mohd Azmi Riji, 33, was arrested.


Mohd Azmi had pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment term that may extend to 7 years or with fine or with both, if convicted.

He was charged with threatening to kill his elder sister at their house in Kampung Tabuan Tengah at about 2pm on March 22. According to the facts of the case, the victim had asked Mohd Azmi to move the Astro recorder from the living room to a room in the house. This instruction enraged the accused, who then threatened his sibling with harm. The victim then lodged a police report.

Prosecuting officer Nelson Ensit prosecuted, while the accused was not represented. — DayakDaily
