KUCHING, Oct 13: Declaring that prison held no fear for him, a man who threatened to murder his wife outside a Syariah Court last week has been sentenced to four months behind bars.
The Magistrate’s Court handed down the sentence today after 32-year-old gym instructor, Muhamad Aisamuddin, admitted to a single charge of criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
Magistrate Nuriena Syafika Mohd Najib presided over the case.
The dispute stemmed from the couple’s marriage, which the 34-year-old wife had decided to end due to her husband’s continued drug abuse.
Her decision reportedly angered him, leading to a confrontation between the two at about 10am on October 8 within the Syariah Court grounds.
The court was told that the man lost his temper and turned aggressive during the argument. He allegedly warned his wife that he would kill her and would only feel satisfied once he had been jailed, adding that he was not afraid of going to prison.
Concerned for her safety, she filed a police report. Officers detained the suspect at around 10.05pm that same day.
Investigators concluded that the husband had instilled fear and trauma in his wife through his violent outburst and threat to kill her.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan appeared for the prosecution, while the accused had no legal representation. — DayakDaily
