Jalan Sungai Maong Cluster involving kindergarten emerges with 20 Covid-19 cases in staff, children

KUCHING, Aug 13: A kindergarten at Jalan Sungai Maong is one of the four new Covid-19 clusters declared in Kuching today, after 20 positive cases involving staff and children were confirmed so far.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily updates on Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, reported that the institution cluster dubbed the Jalan Sungai Maong Cluster involved the employees and students of an early childhood education centre.

A total of 99 individuals have been screened, whereby 75 have tested negative while four are still awaiting lab test results.

The second cluster dubbed the Skim Penempatan Stutong Baru Cluster which involved a few families living at the resettlement scheme located at Jalan Stampin Baru here has six positive cases.

A total of 17 individuals have been screened, with one testing negative while 10 are still awaiting lab test results.

The third cluster was named the Taman Indah Landeh Cluster with eight cases involving the residents of a residential area of Taman Indah Landeh located in Jalan Sri Permai Off Jalan Landeh here.

A total of 15 individuals have been screened, whereby seven have tested negative with no results pending.

The fourth cluster which involved several families at Kampung Sungai Laruh in Jalan Seruling, Petra Jaya here, was declared after 12 people tested positive for Covid-19.

A total of 80 individuals linked to the Kampung Sungai Laruh Cluster have been screened, whereby 68 have tested negative with no results pending.

All positive cases from these four clusters have been admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) as well as the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Kuching for treatment and isolation.

There are six new clusters declared in Sarawak today. The remaining two were detected in Beluru dubbed the Sungai Menok Cluster with 20 cases and in Sebauh dubbed the Long Maktub Cluster with eight cases.

SDMC has also today declared the end of three clusters namely the Nanga Sejugam Cluster in Julau, Jalan Haji Taha Cluster in Kuching and Sungai Pelepak Cluster in Meradong, after no new local cases were reported in the past 28 days.

With that, the number of active clusters in Sarawak now stands at 99, out of which 18 clusters have registered an increase in daily infections with a total of 91 cases.

They are the Kampung Sungai Duuh Cluster which added 29 more cases; Kampung Haji Baki Cluster (16 cases); Kampung Pulo Ulu Cluster in (8 cases); new Long Maktub Cluster, Kampung Quop Cluster, Bungey 2 Cluster and Kampung Sebat Melayu Cluster (5 cases each); KINDA KM18 Cluster, Sungai Serindak Cluster and Kampung Pandan Cluster (3 cases each); Lubuk Bukut Cluster (2 cases); while the Lunyim Cluster, Jalan Airport Kuching Cluster, Kampung Bintawa Ulu Cluster, Jalan Buan Cluster, Braang Payang Cluster, Bandar Riyal Cluster and Tembok Miri Cluster have one case each. — DayakDaily
