Kuching, Serian register triple-digit cases as Sarawak’s daily infections drop to 715 with 2 deaths

KUCHING, Aug 3: Kuching and Serian both registered triple-digit Covid-19 cases, contributing 475 cases or 66.43 per cent of the 715 cases in Sarawak today.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Kuching reported 291 cases, followed by Serian (184), Samarahan (36), Simunjan (29), Tebedu (26), Bintulu (23), Bau (22), Lundu (12), Sibu (10) and Mukah (10), Miri (9), Asajaya (9), Tatau (9), Selangau (9), Betong (8), Pusa (7), Lawas (6), Sebauh (5), Kanowit (4), Belaga (2), Lubok Antu (2), Dalat (1) and Telang Usan (1).


With this, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 85,318.

SDMC also reported that of the total cases reported today, 418 cases were screened after having contact to positive cases where 35 were symptomatic.

Another 91 cases involved individuals linked to active clusters where 75 of them were symptomatic.

Additionally, 108 cases were detected from screening of symptomatic individuals, 87 from other screenings in health facilities, and 11 Import B cases involving individuals returning from Johor (5), Kuala Lumpur (3), Sabah (2) and Selangor (1).

On the clinical categories, SDMC mentioned that 540 cases were classified as Category 1, whereby patients did not develop any symptoms, while there were 173 cases with mild symptoms in Category 2.

There was also one case with lung infections in Category 3 and one Category 4 case involving a patient with lung infections that required oxygen.

At the same time, the State recorded two new fatalities including one brought-in-dead (BID) case, bringing the State’s death toll to 479.

The BID case involved an 85-year-old man with comorbidities from Kuching while the other fatality involved a 61-year-old man with comorbidities from Serian who was receiving treatment in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

On the same day, Sarawak also reported 794 patients had recovered and discharged from hospitals statewide, bringing the total number of recoveries and discharges to 76,590 or 89.77 per cent.

There are 8,067 individuals still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards in the State. — DayakDaily
