In a separate hearing, Yonas, who had entered Malaysia without legal documentation or immigration clearance, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and four strokes of the cane under the Immigration Act 1959/63.

According to case details, the intrusion occurred at around 1.30am on May 12. A young woman in the home had woken up to get a drink and, upon entering the kitchen area, encountered a half-naked man standing behind the door to her sister-in-law’s room.

Startled, she immediately alerted her brother, who managed to detain Yonas with the assistance of nearby residents as he attempted to flee.

Police arrived and arrested Yonas at around 3.50am. Officers also discovered he had no identification or travel documents in his possession.

Further investigations confirmed that Yonas had entered Malaysia illegally, as there were no records of his arrival or departure in the Immigration Department’s system.

He was later brought before the Sessions Court, where he pleaded guilty to the immigration offence.

The immigration charge was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Umi Syukriah Harun. – DayakDaily
