KUCHING, Aug 20: The Ministry of Health (MOH) has advised the public, particularly older people, to be wary of unproven claims about the health benefits of hydrogen inhalers and hydrogen-generating machines.
The ministry said such devices had yet to be approved by the Medical Device Authority (MDA), stressing that all medical devices sold or used in Malaysia must be registered with the authority under the Medical Device Act 2012 (Act 737).
“The sale, distribution or advertising of unregistered devices is an offence under the law and may result in enforcement action,” the MOH said in a statement posted on X.
The post also featured a video promoting the sale of a hydrogen inhaler, with claims that it could treat conditions including heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.
The ministry also urged the public to be cautious of sales activities that deliberately target them through high-pressure tactics or emotional appeals.
“Members of the public are urged to check the registration status of any medical device on the MDA’s official website before making a purchase to avoid the risk of fraud or adverse effects.
“The public can lodge complaints regarding the sale of unregistered devices or misleading advertisements with the MOH or MDA.
“They are also advised to remain vigilant and seek advice from registered medical practitioners on health-related matters,” it added. — Bernama
