KUCHING, Dec 14: The newly appointed Health Minister, Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad, has announced that his ministry will soon release an advisory regarding Covid-19 booster shot recommendations, particularly for the vulnerable and those with comorbidities.

Dr Dzulkefly’s comments come in response to the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) announcement yesterday (Dec 13) that the number of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia had nearly doubled within a span of seven days, just weeks before the year-end holidays and festivities, Malay Mail reported.

He also provided reassurance to Malaysians regarding the country’s supply of Covid-19 booster shots.

The Health Minister added that the available booster shots provide sufficient protection against all strains and emerging variants of the virus.

“We still have reserves of booster shots in our stock that are within their use-by dates.

“It is still sufficient and can protect the public from any strain, sub variants, and new variants of the virus,” he told reporters in Putrajaya today, as cited by the news outlet.

The public was advised to wear masks when socialising with friends and family yesterday by Health director-general Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan, as the 49th Epidemiological Week (ME49), which took place from Dec 3–9, revealed a worrisome increase in cases to 12,757, compared to 6,796 in ME48. — DayakDaily
