BETONG, Feb 22: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is the most ideal government for Sarawak, says Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

It will not allow itself to be taken for a ride by those leaders from outside who do not really understand its needs and its people’s aspirations.

“Since its launching in January 2019, we have observed how GPS under the leadership of the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has very clear policies in protecting the state rights and wealth as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

“At the same time, we also have seen how many development programmes and aid for the state were cancelled by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government. Promises made were not fulfilled and there were the many flip flops in the policies,” he said when officiating at the ‘Sarawak Kami Empu'(Sarawak We Belong) seminar at the community hall here today.

The event, organised by the Bukit Saban PBB branch, was attended by about 700 women members and supporters from 17 sub branches.

Batang Lupar MP Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim represented PBB Wanita chief Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah at the function.

Compared to the many existing political parties, Uggah reiterated that GPS was still the best.

“We have locals who have won in the last general election but are not fighting for you. There are those who have publicly admitted to lying in order to win.

“Thus, we need a very strong state government to protect our rights and wealth. In GPS, we have a very strong and focused leader in Abang Johari who has over 40 years of experience,” he said.

He added that Abang Johari too had proven his wisdom and ingenuity when he managed to source for extra funding to finance the state development programmes.

“He is also an inclusive leader, a chief minister for all races and religions through his many policies and in particular the creation of Unifor or Unit For Other Religions. This unit helps in the infrastructural development of at least 16 different faiths in the state,” he said.

Meanwhile, Uggah who is also PBB deputy president, urged the Bukit Saban women members to continue to remain united in order to preserve their strength.

“You have been very important pillars of strength in ensuring the government candidate victories in past elections. This should be maintained,” he reminded.

He also called on them to help in registering more youth so that they could vote in the next election.

“But your most important task now is to ensure the GPS ‘Kenyalang’ symbol is recognised by especially the elderly rural folks. This will be the symbol used in the coming state election by all GPS candidates,” he said.

In her speech earlier, Rohani advised all PBB Wanita movement to do their own preparations for all possibilities including the state election.

“Based on past speeches by Abang Johari, the state election is quite near but how near I do not know. We must be ready with our explanations…we must be able to debunk all accusations made against us especially in the social media,” she said.—DayakDaily
