KUCHING, June 23: The government has yet to decide whether to reinstate the monthly Budi95 petrol quota to 300 litres, as it continues to assess developments in West Asia and their effect on global oil prices.
According to Bernama, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said that the government needed time to monitor the recently announced ceasefire, noting that it would take 60 days for the US and Iran to finish their discussions.
“So we have to wait and see if this (peace deal) can last and the overall implications,” he said.
At the same time, Amir said that although the quota has dropped from 300 litres to 200 litres, motorists have been able to manage the situation, noting that almost 80 per cent of Budi95 subsidy recipients use less than 200 litres of petrol every month.
He also said that measures such as working from home will further reduce petrol use.
On Monday (June 22), the Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced that the government will provide up to 200 litres of subsidised diesel per month at RM2.10 per litre through the Budi Madani Diesel (Budi Diesel) programme, effective July 1.
Eligible private owners of diesel-powered pickup trucks and SUVs may also apply for an additional 100 litres per month, increasing their total monthly entitlement to 300 litres. — DayakDaily
