KUCHING, Aug 26: The Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP) General Assembly and Convention, to be held in Kuching from Sept 2 to 4, will be the largest event in the engineering body’s 48-year history.
FEIAP president Ir Yau Chau Fong said the event, which will take place at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), is expected to draw between 180 and 200 international delegates from more than 25 countries, alongside 500 to 600 local delegates.
He said the international participants would include representatives from Southeast Asia, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and South America.
“This General Assembly and Convention will be the largest event ever held by FEIAP in its 48 years,” he said as reported by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
He said this during a press conference after paying a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Satria Pertiwi Complex today.
Yau said Abang Johari is expected to officiate the opening ceremony on Sept 3, deliver a keynote address and participate in a fireside chat on engineering in the Asia-Pacific region.
The session will be moderated by Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Hospital Board chairman Tan Sri Dato Seri Ir Professor Emeritus Dr Chuah Hean Teik.
The convention will also feature the inaugural World Engineering Congress and Exhibition, focusing on four key areas of engineering infrastructure, energy engineering, climate and engineering leadership.
The event is expected to strengthen professional networks and cooperation within the international engineering community, while providing a platform for the exchange of expertise and experiences on engineering developments in Sarawak and Malaysia.
Also present during the courtesy call was Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sarawak chairwoman Ir Dr Angelia Liew San Chuin. — DayakDaily
