KUCHING, Jan 5: United People’s Party (UPP) president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh is confident that there will be a satisfactory solution to address the conflict between his party and Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP).
He said recently he had met Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, and presented UPP’s conditions and arrangements that could mend the conflict between it and SUPP.
“We will leave it to their political wisdom to work out some formula to see how the two parties can work together. Because the ultimate decision lies with the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister,” he told reporters at his Ministry of International Trade and E-Commerce office at Bangunan Baitul Makmur in Petra Jaya here earlier today.
Wong, who is also the state’s Second Finance Minister, however declined to mention what those conditions and arrangements were.
Asked if he was willing to return back to SUPP if the conditions were met, Wong said: “We were sacked in the first place, so how can we go back? We cannot go back. So there are some arrangements, but we will leave it to the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister.”
Wong also mentioned that UPP had submitted a list of candidates it would be fielding for the coming General Election. He however declined to delve into the details, iterating that it would be up to the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister.
Last September during a function in Sibu, Wong was quoted by a local daily as saying that UPP has named Dato Andrew Wong to stand in Sibu constituency and Andrew Ting for Lanang. — DayakDaily
