Gawai Cultural Parade to showcase rich traditions of Sarawak with 99 participating contingents

KUCHING June 12: A Gawai Cultural Parade, scheduled for June 15, will see participation from 99 contingents and 13 decorated vehicles, highlighting the vibrant cultural heritage of Sarawak.

According to the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) president Datu Ik Pahon Joyik announced that the parade will commence at 2pm from the Tun Jugah Building on Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman and continue until 5pm.

“The parade will display the rich cultures of the various tribes and traditional ethnic costumes in Sarawak,” he added.

He said this after a delegation led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas paid a courtesy call to present an invitation for the parade to the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at his office today.

Ik Pahon also further disclosed a contingent of the Kadazan-Dusun Association of Sabah in Sarawak has been invited to liven up the parade.

Among those present were Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil and Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development deputy permanent secretary Amelia Siam. — DayakDaily
