KUCHING, March 12: Foreign investors have made a commitment to build a green hydrogen gas production plant in Bintulu that will be able to export the gas, especially to Japan.

Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said globally, it is expected that hydrogen gas will be the main energy for the long term in the future in an economic age driven by carbon-free energy generation.

“Therefore, Sarawak has started to develop hydrogen gas cell energy utilisation projects, especially for buses and cars.

“I am confident that the rapid development of technology in the future will enable the production of hydrogen gas energy cells to be done at low cost,” said Abang Johari, whose text speech was read by Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn during the 24th Sarawak Skills and i-CATS University College Convocation Ceremony held at Borneo Convention Center Kuching (BCCK) today.

He added until now, Sarawak is the leading state in building a hydrogen economy with the target of becoming the main producer of the hydrogen in the region.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari pointed out that one of the main drivers towards the hydrogen based economy is human resource development or “capacity building”.

In order to capitalise on that, he emphasise, Sarawak needs to have institutions of higher learning, vocational training centers and special skills training centers to generate skills in this new technology.

“Sarawak needs to have institutions of higher learning, vocational training centers and special skills training centers to generate skills in this new technology.

“Sarawak must produce its own skilled manpower to ensure the success of this hydrogen economy,” he said. — DayakDaily
