KUCHING, July 19: A gas leak was detected at a construction site along Jalan Perdana in Tudan, Miri, this morning, prompting the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) to cordon off the area while investigations are carried out.
According to a report, a call was received at 7.45am, and firefighters from the Lutong station were deployed.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that gas was visibly escaping from a cylindrical pile at the construction site, and a safety perimeter was established. The cylindrical pile emitting the gas was temporarily sealed pending further inspection.
PETROS contractors identified the gas as methane (CH₄), with monitoring equipment recording a reading of 100 per cent of the Lower Explosive Limit (LEL), indicating a potentially explosive concentration. No other gases were detected.
No construction work is currently being carried out at the site. — DayakDaily
