Construction works halted after underground gas leak reported at SK Beladin site

PUSA, July 28: Construction works at a site near SK Beladin in Kampung Hilir Beladin along Jalan Maludam were halted today after an underground gas leak was reported during soil investigation works at the school compound.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Saratok, which responded to the emergency, said the incident occurred at about 9am, when contractors carrying out soil investigation borehole drilling works for the construction of a covered open multipurpose hall discovered that a borehole had released an unidentified gas.

The contractors, who were working under the supervision of the Public Works Department (JKR) Betong, immediately stopped all work and informed JKR of the incident. The complainant also lodged a police report.

Upon arrival, firefighters found no visible signs of gas emission or steam discharge from the ground as previously reported.

Operation commander PBK I Fis-hak Illah-hi said the team carried out monitoring activities around the area as a precautionary measure.

Two firefighters equipped with full personal protective equipment (PPE) were also instructed to install safety barricades around the location to prevent unauthorised access.

No injuries or casualties were reported.

The operation concluded at 11.10am after firefighters determined that there were no further signs of gas release at the site. — DayakDaily
