KUCHING, 22 Sept: A medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) was organised to rescue a fisherman who had suffered from a stroke while sailing near Pulau Burong on Monday night.

The boat was approximately 20 nautical miles away from Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) Jetty, KOMTAS.

“APMM Operation Centre received the call at 8.15pm and a boat was deployed to the scene to bring the patient to the Jetty before heading towards the hospital for further treatment,” Acting Director of APMM Sarawak, Maritime Captain Zin Azman Md Yunus said in the press statement.

According to Zin, the victim’s friend who was on the boat with the victim told him that the victim felt weak and was believed to be suffering from stroke attack. He later immediately contacted the fishing boat nearby for help.

APMM reached the scene at 1.30am and immediately brought the victim to the jetty. The victim was later handed over to the hospital officer for further treatment.

“APMM will always be ready to give help and aid to the maritime communities during emergency time by calling the operation center at 082432544 or MERS 999, ” Zin said. — Dayak Daily
