First AEON mall in East Malaysia officially opens for business

KUCHING, April 20: AEON Co. (M) Bhd officially launched its first mall in East Malaysia here today as part of its plans to strengthen and expand its presence in the region.

Spanning over 1.6 million square feet of gross built up area, housing more than 130 retail lots spreading across three floors, AEON Mall Kuching Central plays host to the AEON supermarket and department stores for family, household furnishing and electronics as well as a wide range of retail, food and beverages outlets.

Managing director Shinobu Washizawa said the first AEON store in East Malaysia offers a fulfilling shopping experience with a wide variety of quality products and services.

“We are excited to finally cement our presence here in East Malaysia. Our latest mall in Kuching will bring forth a completely new shopping experience not only for the Kuching community but all our East Malaysian friends in general.

“With three floors boosting different attractions, AEON Mall Kuching Central is dedicated to being a one-stop destination to help shoppers find excitement in our mall offerings, from grocery to fashion, lifestyle, food and beverages and many more,” Washizawa said at the launching today.

The maill is set to encapsulate all the excitement from shopping, dining and leisure with the serenity of nature, to relaxation and life improvement experiences coupled with the energy of active sports with the opening of a 24-hour fitness centre soon.

In addition, the mall comes with 1,800 car park bays spread over five floors of parking, designed to provide ample space for shoppers.

Shoppers can also find a contemporary mix of Japanese fashion, home and lifestyle concepts by TOPVALU, AEON’s global flagship private brand.

To add convenience for shoppers, AEON Mall Kuching Central also provides a premier surau for Muslims customers, children-only restrooms, as well as a baby room that comes with feeding and nappy change area, play land and water dispenser.

The launch was officiated at by Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operative and Consumerism secretary-general Datuk Seri Jamil Salleh.

The AEON Foundation also made a contribution of RM30,000 each to four charity homes — The Sarawak Cheshire Home, Lembaga Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Dan Pendidikan Nur Murni and Rumah Seri Kenangan Kuching.
