KUCHING, June 1: A fire broke out at a power plant in Selangau today.
In a report by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 9.44am, and firefighters from the Selangau station were deployed.
It was noted that when firefighters arrived, a size-up was conducted, and it was discovered that the fire occurred on the first floor and involved a pile of coal dust as well as aluminium foil beneath the roof. The blaze did not affect the building’s main structure.
“The affected premises was a permanent four-storey building with a zero-ground level design, featuring a steel structure, spandek roof and walls, and a concrete floor,” said the report.
Firefighting efforts focused on extinguishing the burning coal dust, as well as conducting cooling operations on the aluminium foil and surrounding structures to prevent reignition.
After the fire was extinguished, overhaul works and further inspections were carried out to ensure there were no remaining ignition sources or embers that could cause the fire to recur.
The operation was concluded after the site was declared safe, and no further risk of fire spread was detected
Upon completion of all checks and confirmation that no fire source remained, the responding team returned to the station. — DayakDaily
