KUCHING, March 15: Sarawak’s Minister of Utility and Telecommunications (MUT) Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi has emphasised the importance of finalising the commercial collaboration between Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) and Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) to fully implement the Sarawak Gas Roadmap.
According to Julaihi, Sarawak has already established a comprehensive blueprint for gas development through the Sarawak Gas Roadmap. However, the key to its successful execution lies in strategic collaboration with the country’s national oil and gas company.
“To implement the Sarawak Gas Roadmap effectively, Petros requires a strategic partner, and I firmly believe that PETRONAS is the most suitable partner for this endeavour.
“If this commercial collaboration can be finalised soon, we will be able to execute the Sarawak Gas Roadmap swiftly and efficiently,” he said during the PETRONAS Uplifting Lives Festive programme at Al-Muflihin Mosque in Sebuyau this evening. A recording of his speech was made available to the press after the function.
Julaihi further said the roadmap includes boosting electricity supply across Sarawak through gas-powered generation, including 500 megawatts (MW) in Miri, 1,500MW in Samalaju, and 5,000MW in Kuching.
Additionally, the plan aims to develop an extensive gas pipeline network throughout Sarawak to support downstream industries and enhance the State’s revenue.
Julaihi expressed confidence that the partnership with PETRONAS would accelerate the growth of Sarawak’s gas-based economy and contribute significantly to Malaysia’s overall development, given Sarawak’s vast gas reserves.
“With this collaboration, Sarawak can enjoy more advanced development while boosting Malaysia’s economic strength.
“Our neighbouring countries are advancing rapidly, and I want Malaysia to keep pace,” he added.
At the event, PETRONAS distributed food baskets and festive delights to 250 less fortunate families in Sebuyau district in Sarawak. The food basket consists of essential items such as cooking oil, rice, canned foods, and condiments, while the festive delight consists of dates and cookies. – DayakDaily
