KUCHING, June 23: Under the quiet skies of Samariang, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, the wife of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, was laid to rest this afternoon, surrounded by family, friends and mourners whose hearts were heavy with grief and love.

The hearse bearing her remains arrived at the Samariang Islamic Cemetery at 1.25pm, marking the final leg of her journey from Masjid Jamek Kuching.

As the casket was gently lifted from the vehicle, a solemn hush fell over the crowd. Abang Johari stood nearby, his face a portrait of calm sorrow, accompanied by his children and relatives.

Rain threatened but held back, as if the sky itself was in mourning.

The burial proceeded with quiet dignity. A circle of loved ones gathered around the grave, their eyes fixed on the final rites. Prayers were recited, soft and steady, carried by the breeze across the cemetery grounds.

Then came the most tender moment—when family members stepped forward to pour water over the freshly turned earth and scatter handfuls of flower petals. Each act was deliberate and full of feeling, a gesture of both letting go and holding on. Some lingered longer by the grave, heads bowed, lips moving in private prayers.

Premier Abang Johari remained composed throughout, though the grief etched across his expression said what words could not.

For those closest to Puan Sri Juma’ani, today’s farewell was not only for a wife, a mother and a matriarch—but for a woman who had quietly touched many lives with her grace and warmth.

By 1.52pm, the burial was complete. Yet many stayed behind, reluctant to leave just yet. There was no rush—only silence, the rustle of trees and the occasional murmur of prayers as mourners slowly took their leave.

As she was returned to the earth, it was not with fanfare, but with love—the kind that doesn’t fade with time.

In the peaceful resting place of Samariang, amid the soft hush of nature, Puan Sri Juma’ani now rests—remembered, cherished and honoured.
