KUCHING, April 4: The Federal Government wants to leverage Sarawak’s expertise, experience, and resources to advance green technology in Malaysia.

In a news report by TVS, Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said Sarawak’s advancement in the sector, particularly in hydrogen energy and carbon capture, usage, and storage (CCUS) initiatives, makes it an ideal partner for this endeavour.

“We will harness Sarawak’s resources and expertise in collaboration with Peninsular Malaysia and international companies, so that Malaysia can use the technology as it is still costly.

“With the cooperation of the Sarawak government and relevant companies, we aim for swift and effective coordination and implementation,” he told the Dewan Negara today.

He was responding to inquiries from Senator Pele Peter Tinggom regarding the Federal government’s initiatives to help Sarawak achieved Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

Tengku Zafrul noted Sarawak’s impressive 70 per cent renewable energy (RE) capacity, surpassing initial targets.

“It’s imperative that this technology aligns with our national ambition to achieve net-zero carbon targets by 2050,” he emphasised.

Furthermore, Tengku Zafrul underscored the Ministry’s commitment to fostering economic growth through the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), aiming to attract both foreign direct investment (FDI) and domestic direct investment (DDI).

“Strategies and initiatives, such as prioritising DDI growth as outlined in the master plan, are crucial to balancing FDI and DDI, thereby expanding the domestic network and bolstering the nation’s economy,” he added. — DayakDaily
