PUTRAJAYA, March 22: The federal government has announced a Covid-19 injury fund worth RM 10 million for those who suffer serious side effects after receiving Covid-19 vaccinations.

According to online news portal Free Malaysia Today quoting Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba, vaccine recipients who experience serious side effects requiring prolonged hospitalisation stand to receive RM50,000 while those who suffer permanent disability and death will receive RM500,000.

Dr Adham disclosed that the fund will be managed by the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).


“This is a practical step taken by the government to face the possibility of adverse effects brought about by the Covid-19 vaccine.

“This will help fund the needs of those who might be affected,” he said during a virtual press conference on the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) here today.

Also present was Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin who is also the coordinating minister for PICK.

Khairy disclosed that Malaysia has signed an agreement to purchase an additional 12 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine, which will be “filled and finished” by Pharmaniaga Bhd in the country.

On another note, Khairy said he and Dr Adham will be discussing the implementation date of the second phase of the Covid-19 vaccination programme, with an announcement to be made next week. — DayakDaily
