KUCHING, April 19: Sarawak expects to see the construction of three more transit centre for the homeless (TTG) in Kuching, Bintulu and Miri this year.

Sarawak Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the TTG in Miri which is a corporate social responsibility (CSR) project undertaken by Samling Group of Companies, is expected to start construction in August.

“Meanwhile, for the TTG in Bintulu, it will be combined with a community social support centre. It is currently at the pre-implementation stage with the collaboration of the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA).

“Hopefully the project will be tendered by August this year,” she said when chairing a Sarawak Homeless Coordinating Committee (JPGS) 1/2022 Meeting at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.

Fatimah also said that the committee has proposed and agreed to the location of the TTG in Kuching this morning.

The renovation works on the proposed location is expected to start in September this year.

She explained that the site might be a bit smaller compared to other places because it is located at a shoplot.

“However, it doesn’t matter because we already have an existing community social support centre which is currently undergoing upgrading works.

“The centre is a CSR project by Datuk Bobby Ting and wife Datin Shen-Tel Lee located at Jalan Abell, Kuching,” she added.

The first transit place for the homeless in Sarawak was set up in Sibu and it was officially launched on Jan 28 this year.

Since its operation, TTG Sibu has welcomed 25 homeless people, of which 19 were male. — DayakDaily
