KUCHING, Oct 13: A family of five, including two children, have been accused by the operator of a steamboat restaurant in Bintulu of “stealing meat” after a social media post showing footage of them packing away the meat which was supposed to be cooked and consumed at the restaurant went viral recently.

The operator of the ‘all-you-can-eat-buffet’ steamboat restaurant, who only wanted to be known as Alan, claimed that the family had paid a total of RM163.30 for 600 servings of meats, only to secretly pack it up to bring home.

The all-you-can-eat restaurant has a rule against packing away meat to be taken home for consumption.

He claimed that on Oct 8, three adults brought along two children and paid RM163.30, following an additional five percent discount due to membership, for the buffet steamboat and immediately ordered 600 servings of lamb and pork slices.

The restaurant charges RM39.42 for an adult and RM26.82 for a child at the establishment.

In a social media post, Alan said he already suspected that something was fishy when the five customers instantly placed an order for so many meat dishes upon arrival.

From the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, he allegedly caught the five customers secretly packing the meat servings in bags hidden at the corner of their table as well as bags they carried on themselves.

“I can’t keep cool and keep quiet anymore, I am sorry that I have to make the matter public.

“I cannot accept that the parents brought along their children when ‘stealing’.

“Upon arrival, they ordered 600 servings of meat. It was all planned and premeditated. The point is, they brought along their children. I saw it all on the CCTV of my restaurant,” Alan said on his social media page.

When contacted, Alan said he had two children of his own, and it took him two days to decide to post the incident on social media with the customers’ faces censored because he would not want the family, especially the children involved, to be hurt.

“I don’t want to hurt the family but parents must set good examples for their children. These parents let their children be part of this act of ’stealing’ where the children happily participated as seen from the CCTV.

“Actually, they all knew that there was CCTV installed. They even looked into the CCTV. Still, they packed the meat, some inside the bags in the corner of the table, some into the bags they carried with him on their waists. The quantity was quite substantial,” Alan alleged. — DayakDaily
