Public Health, Housing, Local Government Ministry urged to take people’s complaints seriously

Michael Kong

KUCHING, March 9: The Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government should take the complaints it has received seriously and address the people’s concerns.

Michael Kong, special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen, said the ministry is responsible for the well-being of citizens, therefore any negative reviews from the public must be attended to.

“The ministry is tasked with ensuring that the citizens have access to quality healthcare, clean and safe living environments, as well as efficient local councils.

“As such, it is only natural that citizens would raise complaints when they feel that their rights to quality services are not being met.

“Instead of attributing these complaints to ‘high visibility’, the ministry should take them seriously and work to address them,” he said in a statement today.

Kong was responding to a statement by Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also the Deputy Premier, stating that his ministry has high visibility and the most number of complaints among others in Sarawak.

In addition, Kong also said that the success of a ministry is not judged solely on the negative reviews it receives, but also on the positive reviews it garners.

“Positive reviews indicate that the ministry is providing quality services that are meeting the needs of the citizens,” he added. — Dayakdaily
