Exotic fish parts pending export seized, man detained

The items seized at Sibu Airport cargo division

SIBU, March 5: A man has been held in custody for illegally using a courier service to send out 9kg of fish bladder and maw worth RM225,000 to an overseas nation on Feb 26.

State Royal Custom Malaysia chief, Herman Shah Abdullah in a statement said believed that the items were for the East Asia market.

“We have arrested a 35-year old suspect after the items were found at Sibu Airport cargo division on Feb 26. He had labelled the items as fish crackers so as to avoid detection,” he said.

Herman believed that the items were in great demand in East Asia as people used them for alternative treatment.

“This was the second case in a week’s time. Three days earlier on Feb 23, a 40-year old man was also nabbed for a similar offence,” he added.

Both cases are being investigated under Section 135 (1) (a) of the Customs Act 1967. -DayakDaily
